Tip #3: "What are they doing again? I didn't get anything..."
🎯 Today's objective: Explain your idea simply to anyone
You’re hanging out with an old friend.
You're asked, "What's your idea about?"
"I'm launching an algorithmic solution with AI and machine learning to streamline the costs of F500 companies".
And... What are you talking about, my friend?? 😅
🎯 Today's objective: Explain your idea simply
Let’s take here a few minutes to express what you're planning on doing. This is a good exercise, which will help you clarify your thoughts.
🔑 Express your idea using the following sequence
(Fill the blanks)
Hi, my name is (Your Name), founder of (Company name or "To be defined").
We think that (Your Users),
want to be able to / want to have / need / struggle to (Your Users' Need/Pain/Problem).
So we want to offer them / create (Your Solution). This is better than (What the Competitors do), because (Your difference).
To help you with this exercise, you can ask yourself the following questions:
Who will use what I plan to make?
Why should they use that?
What exactly do I offer them?
Who am I competing with?
Why am I different from them?
📙 Examples
Hi, my name is Marie, founder of Paying for Good. We think that a lot of people when making purchases online want to have a positive social and environmental impact. So we want to offer them the possibility to donate to NGOs when they make a transaction online. This is better than other traditional payment methods because we offer the possibility to make these donations automatically.
Hi, I'm Eli, founder of No name for now. We think that university students want to get coffee in cups made out of cookie at their universities. So we want to stock the coffee machines at unis with these edible cups. This is better than the plastic or cartoon cups we have today, because it is more eco-friendly, everybody likes cookies, and we can offer different flavors (chocolate, vanilla...).
Now, let's try to express it even more simply.
Yes, with examples, it’s easier, isn’t it? 🙃
Now let’s do it even simpler (here’s a trick!)
🔑 Problem + Solution + Evidence
"You know when..." name your target and their problem
"At [your company], we..." explain why you care about that problem and explain your solution
"In fact..." provide evidence of credibility (studies comforting your point, similar companies doing it, articles you've read, number of clients, partnerships, etc.)
